The PERT – Evolution from a Centralised to a Federated Organization

The Performance Enhancement and Response Team (PERT) is a group of engineers and scientists with knowledge and experience in network behaviour. Academic and research network users may request the PERT’s help (direct or via IT support) when they experience poor network performance.

The GN2 PERT is a virtual team, with part-time staff provided by 10 GN2 partners. In order to promote the PERT service more widely the current PERT will, in September 2008, evolve into a federation. This will begin with a relatively small number of NRENs, but will eventually (it is planned) cover all Europe and perhaps beyond.
